AI voice agents that answer, understand and act

Build agents that hold real conversations on the phone — a receptionist, a sales follow-up, a booking line, a support desk. They understand the caller, do the task, and hand off to a person when they should. All on Nixflex, one platform, your number.

What an AI voice agent actually is

An AI voice agent is not a phone menu with a nicer voice. It is software that has a real conversation: it hears the caller, works out their intent from a full sentence — the difference between "I want to cancel" and "I want to upgrade" — and then does something about it. It can answer the question, book the appointment, pull a record from your system, or pass the call to a person with the full context attached.

On Nixflex, an agent is one prompt and one personality. You describe how it should behave and what it can do, attach a phone number, and it is live. The same agent can sit behind one number or two hundred — which is how a single dental agent can answer for every clinic in a chain.

Four agents, one platform

The switcher above shows the same idea from four angles. Each is just a different prompt on the same engine — and each leans on a real capability that ships built in.

Receptionist

Answers every inbound call, tells the caller what they need, and transfers to a human — cold or warm — when the call calls for it.

Sales

Calls leads back by outbound, qualifies interest, and books a demo. Run it as a batch campaign across a whole list.

Booking

Checks real calendar availability with Cal.com or Google Calendar, reserves the slot live on the call, and texts a confirmation.

Support

Looks up an order or account in your own systems through a custom function mid-call, then answers from the real result.

Agents that answer, and agents that call

Inbound

Point your number at an agent and it answers every call, day or night. It identifies why the caller is ringing, handles it, books when appropriate, and escalates genuine emergencies or high-stakes calls to a person immediately — with context.

Outbound

Trigger one call through the API or a batch campaign across thousands. Outbound agents detect voicemail and leave the right message, and they pull past call summaries for each person so the conversation picks up where the last one left off.

How you build an agent

  1. Write the prompt. Describe how the agent greets callers and what it should do. Plain language — no flow-builder to wire up.
  2. Give it tools. Connect a calendar to book, add custom functions to reach your APIs, and set transfers and SMS — configured per number.
  3. Attach a number. Point your own Twilio or Telnyx number at the agent. One agent can serve many numbers.
  4. Go live. The agent answers and makes calls immediately. Every call is transcribed, summarised and scored, and fires to your webhook.

Prefer no code? Businesses set all of this up in the dashboard in about five minutes. Developers do the same through one REST API.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI voice agent?

An AI voice agent is software that holds a real spoken conversation on a phone call. It listens, works out what the caller means, replies in a natural voice, and takes action — booking an appointment, transferring to a person, sending a text, or looking something up in your systems. Unlike an old phone menu, the caller never has to press numbers or follow a script; they just talk.

What kinds of agents can I build with Nixflex?

Any agent is really one prompt and one personality, so you shape it however you need: a receptionist that answers every inbound call, a sales agent that follows up on leads by outbound call, a booking agent that checks your calendar and reserves a slot live, or a support agent that looks up an order in your own system mid-call. One agent can attach to as many numbers as you like.

Can the agent make outbound calls, not just answer them?

Yes. Trigger a single outbound call through the API, or launch a batch campaign that calls a whole list. Outbound agents detect voicemail and can leave the right message, and they automatically pull past call summaries for that person so the agent remembers earlier conversations.

Can an agent transfer to a human?

Yes — cold (straight hand-off) or warm (the agent briefs the person before connecting). The agent decides when a call needs a human and transfers with context, so nobody has to repeat themselves.

Can the agent do things during the call, like book or look up an order?

Yes. Agents book, reschedule and cancel appointments live with Cal.com or Google Calendar, and custom functions let the agent call your own APIs mid-conversation — to check an order, look up an account, or trigger an action in your software — then use the result to answer the caller.

What happens after the call?

Every call is analysed automatically: a summary, a sentiment score, and any structured data you want extracted. The result fires to your webhook and flows into your CRM or automation through Slack, GoHighLevel, Zapier or Make.

What does it cost to run an agent?

Voice is a flat $0.08 per minute, pay-as-you-go, with the premium model included rather than billed separately. Numbers with Live Monitor enabled bill inbound minutes at $0.09. You bring your own Twilio or Telnyx number, so carrier costs stay on your account.
